Drabbit (Dragon – Rabbit)
Although their name is based on dragons and rabbits, they’re actually neither!
Drabbits got their name due to their appearance. Their long ears and soft coat gave people the idea they were some kind of rabbit, whereas the scaly nose, tail, stomach and their forked tongue made people think they were dragons.
Drabbits are omnivorous creatures of a yet unknown bracket of species.
Drabbits are often solitary creatures, but they can also live in small family groups of around 4 to 6 Drabbits.
The general size of a feral Drabbit is that of a Bernese Mountain Dog.
Females often weigh between 40 and 50kg, whereas males weigh between 45 to 55kg.
Drabbits hatch from eggs. These eggs are roughly 30 to 40 cm in height and 15 to 20 cm in width.
Drabbits are referred to as Hatchlings right after hatching, up until they're 1 month old. After that they're called Younglings and eventually they'll become adults. The colors of the eggs are different, depending on the sub-species and the individual.
Stardustie eggs have a soft, luminous glow and is covered in small specks of star dust.
Eggs take roughly a month to 2 months to hatch, but the process can be sped up with an incubator.
Lore
Features & Rarities
Tail
Their tail can be short and chubby, long and slender, fluffy, plated, tufted and much more.
They often have a short tail with plates on the bottom leading to the crotch and stomach, but they can also have a completely fluffy tail.
In this case they almost always miss the plated stomach as well.
Ears
Their ears are actually almost always the same, but do have a difference in positioning.
They can be placed on the side of the head, pointing sideways or downwards or at they can be placed higher up on the skull, where they often point slightly upwards.
They can be slender, but the ears can also be wide.
The inside of the ear is covered in soft, silky fuzz. This is to protect their ear cavities from cold, heat and dirt.
The size of the ears also function as a cooling down system if they’re in warm climates.
They have very good hearing and can spot a sound from several kilometers away.
Horns
Drabbits can also have horns, but these are not a necessity.
It’s quite common to find Drabbits without horns, but also common to find them with horns.
The horns can vary in shape and size.
They can be used for defensive maneuvers and mating displays, the bigger… the better!
Tufts
Tufts can occur on various places on the body, such as ankles, wrists and the tip of the tail.
It’s also possible they sprout tufts on their elbows, hips and neck, though not common.
These tufts appear most commonly on Drabbits that live in a slightly colder climate.
In rare occasions, all the way along the spine can be covered in long tufts (from neck to tip of tail).
Wings
Wings are the most uncommon feature Drabbits have to offer.
The wings are located on the lower back, next to the tail.
Wings are caused by a genetic mutation and they are are not used for taking flight nor hoovering as they are too small and weak to carry the weight of a grown Drabbit.
Younglings, however, can hoover using their wings. This is due to the fact the wings grow fast and at that point are strong enough to carry the youngling’s weight.
The wing mutation can result in leathery wings or feathered wings.
Tongue
Drabbits always have a thick, forked tongue.
They can taste salt, sweet, bitter, sour and umami, just like humans.
Nose
These critters have a big, nearly flat nose.
More often than not, the nose is plated from the nostrils up to their hairline.
If the nose is not plated, it has a soft, fleshy gradient that blends into their fur gradually.
Drabbits are known for being able to inhabit almost any climate.
They have the amazing capability of adapting to every situation, and fast too.
They can live in freezing, scorching, humid and rough environments.
In a rare occasion they can even live in space.
Although able to adapt fast, they often prefer to settle down in 1 location, so here are some sub-species.
Arctic Drabbit
Desert Drabbit
Tropical Drabbit
Mountain Drabbit
Galactic Drabbit (Stardusties)
Arctic Drabbits live in cold tundras and their fur is dense and long.
A shorter, more compact layer of fur also developed underneath the upper coat, to help insulate heat better.
The fuzz inside their ears is more compact so that heat doesn’t escape from the huge ear surface.
They tend to have lighter pelts, often with a cold undertone. This is for natural camouflage.
Their plating can be white, black or have a cold pastel color, such as blue.
Desert Drabbits inhabit a warmer climate, such as scorching deserts, therefore their pelt is short and heat resistant.
The fuzz on their ears leaves plenty of space for heat to escape throughout the day.
They often hide in cooler places during the day, during the night they’ll come out to scavenge or hunt for food.
The colors they feature are more sandy, beige toned.
They can also rock other warm browns and sometimes even lean towards pink hues.
Their plates are warm pastel colors.
Tropical Drabbits are indigenous to the rainforests and have a short, dense pelt.
The density keeps out the humidity and rain that is no stranger to the rainforests.
Just like Desert Drabbits, they feature warm coat colors, though often they’re a tad more orangey and darker.
They also take on crazier colors than the others, like greens, blues and reds… kind of like those toxic frogs.
These colors are to scare of any predators, as they might think they’re poisonous.
Their plates can have these crazy colors too, but they can also have any pastel hue to them.
Mountain Drabbits live high up in these rocky environments.
Their ears actually function as a way of keeping balance now, rather than just for hearing.
They’re able to steer their balance with small movements of their ears. Their coats are semi-long, but they don’t have a double coat.
They often do sprout fur tufts along their body, though the reason for this isn’t entirely clear.
Their coats are often grey-toned, but can also feature dusty browns.
Their pelts often have very unsaturated tones, to prevent them from standing out.
If they live nearer to the cave systems they can have luminous markings to help illuminate these caves.
Their plating is often a lot darker than their fur.
Galactic Drabbits, also known as Stardusties, are the rarest sub-species of Drabbits.
These interstellar critters hold the ability to live out in space and travel around to surrounding planets.
They’re born from dying stars and feed on Star Essence. This essence is vital to their survivability out in space.
They often have small pieces of star dust stuck in their fur, which twinkle gently, this is also why they got their name “Stardusties”.
Their coats can be any color, as well as their plates… they do, however, always have big tufts with a galaxy-like effect to them.
If they have horns, these will also have the galaxy effect and also their hair and smaller markings on the body can hold this effect.
